THE STORY

One Player’s Fight Became Everyone’s

One Player’s Fight
Became Everyone’s

When Ryan Tattle was playing junior hockey with the Coquitlam Express in the BCHL, cancer hit close to home. His mom was diagnosed. His teammate and close friend, Greg Lapointe, was fighting his own battle.

Ryan couldn't cure cancer from the ice. But he could score on it.

"Everyone knows someone affected by cancer. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed in their lifetime. I wanted to turn something I love into something that fights back."

He created Score for Cancer — a pledge-based initiative where supporters donated for every point he scored. That first season became the first annual Score for Cancer Game, a charity hockey event with custom jerseys, silent auctions, and a community rallying around one cause.

Five years later, Ryan now plays NCAA hockey at the University of Connecticut, and Score for Cancer has grown far beyond the rink — with new events, new cities, and a mission that keeps getting bigger.
